Advocacy Priority: Intellectual Freedom

Our Work So Far

Intellectual Freedom is one of our Association's core organizational values. We are dedicated to defending free and unhindered access to information and supporting library users’ right to privacy.

The ARSL Board released our Access to Information Statement in the April 2022 that details our organization's stance on this important topic in librarianship.

How We Support YOU!

ARSL provides opportunities for professional development around the principles of Intellectual Freedom through our monthly ARSL TRAIN workshop series, and has intentionally included Intellectual Freedom content at each of the last three Annual Conferences. Education is the first step toward action, and the more deeply out members understand the need for and application of Intellectual Freedom principles, the more effectively they can advocate for in to their local stakeholders.

Need advice or support on this issue? Reach out to the ARSL Advocacy Advisors through the Advocacy Support Request form! Whether it's guidance on educational materials for your staff, support in developing Intellectual Freedom policies & procedures, or help preparing to talk to your governing authorities the Advocacy Advisors are here to help.
