Debbie Winlock — Page Public Library, AZ & 2025 ARSL Conference Committee Co-Chair
Debbie Winlock, director of the Page Public Library in Arizona, found more than her calling when she discovered libraries—she found a home. Growing up introverted and a reader in a small town, Debbie found early on the transformative power of libraries. "Every book became part of who I was," she recalls. She worked various jobs, but always found herself volunteering in libraries until she officially entered the profession in her early thirties. "It felt like coming home."
Now, Debbie leads a semi-round library nestled between Lake Powell and red rocks, serving a diverse rural population, including the Navajo Reservation. Page Public Library has become far more than a building—it's a community lifeline offering everything from homeschool resources and STEM kits to significant events like the Lake Powell Job Fair and Page Con.
What distinguishes Debbie is her commitment to meeting people where they are. Through key partnerships across the region with businesses, nonprofits, and organizations, her team extends its reach far beyond the four walls of its own building.
"In a rural area where resources are minimal and distances are great, we play an important role as a central hub"
What's one of Debbie's proudest achievements? Watching formerly mischievous teens complete community service at the library, then hiring them as staff members. Three have since chosen library careers themselves.
After attending her first ARSL conference more than five years ago, Debbie found her professional community. "I really needed to connect with other small libraries," she says. Now an active volunteer, she encourages others to get involved: "I promise you it will be worth your time!"
